The Youth Choir program will continue with its three ensembles for beginner, intermediate and advanced singers from K-12.
From this 27th season, Voices will add an adult choir called Legacy. This choir will be open to all singers over the age of 18 who will pass a musical audition. Members do not have to be Voices in the Laurel alumni.
Legacy will mostly rehearse separately from the youth choirs. However, with recent studies showing that intergenerational activities are beneficial, there will be many concerts and collaborative projects.
All choirs will sing a variety of repertoire including classical music, world music, show tunes, spirituals, gospel, jazz and pop. The youth and adult choirs will begin rehearsals at the end of August. Auditions are required for singers in grade three and up. Kindergarten, first and second graders can simply register on the website.
Auditions for youth choirs are by appointment or on general audition days August 29 and 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Waynesville. Auditions for the Legacy Adult Choir are by appointment. Laurel alumni voices do not have to audition, but must register online and prepare for a voice placement test during the first rehearsal.
