A new year offers new opportunities for artists who slowly move up this monthly list of the top 40 country music songs to take the plunge. January 2022 represents a cleanup of the palette in that radio programmers and country listeners return to work and real life after three undocumented weeks, during which the opportunities to soak up new sounds are endless.
Plus, some songs hit a bit differently during the holidays. Cody Johnson’s “Til You Can’t” is one such example, hence his big leap into the January 2022 Top 40 list. Jordan Davis’ song about investing in family values remains at No. 1 thanks to continuous airing, strong sales and its ability to hit the mark during the family season.
For the most part, artists have delayed the release of new music until December, so to start 2022, the Country Music Top 40 has only a handful of new tracks. For example, Luke Combs ‘”Doin’ This” is the tallest debut album, but fans heard this song two months ago. The list of the 40 best country songs of January 2022 is compiled from Billboard graphical data, streaming data, sales figures, staff reviews and reader comments.
