
Easter weekend will begin with a packed Friday on the field with Tarleton’s baseball and softball teams hosting doubleheaders. Then on Saturdays, both programs are “Hunting Goose Eggs”, featuring a tailgate with free hot dogs, as well as post-game Easter egg hunts on the fields after each game.
Texas Baseball will start the week on the road, however, playing Incarnate Word on Tuesday. On Friday, athletics will be at Stephen F. Austin for the SFA Invitational, baseball will host a doubleheader against St. Thomas and softball will host a doubleheader against Abilene Christian. On Saturday, baseball and softball will conclude their three-game series against the same opponents, and Tarleton Tennis will play its season finale at the ACU.
TEXAN BASEBALL just knocked out one of the best teams in the division on Sunday, and they’ll be looking to keep the same level of play this week. The Texans play Incarnate Word on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT and host St. Thomas at Tarleton Baseball Complex for a three-game series this weekend. Friday is a doubleheader with play times set at 3:00 p.m. CT and 6:00 p.m. CT, with a streak ending Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CT. In Tarleton’s last victory, Bryce Hackett went the distance in an eight-inning clemency rule, allowing just two runs and striking out five against Lamar. London Green hit two home runs, one on each side of the plate, now with a team-high six bombs this season. UIW is coming off a sweep of Northwestern State to propel them to an overall record of 15-13, 13-4 at home. St. Thomas is 5-19 overall and just 1-13 on the road this season.
TARLETON SOFTBALL returned to their winning ways last week, sweeping Sam Houston to finish 6-0 against the Bearkats this season. Next up is Abilene Christian for a Friday doubleheader at home, game times of 4:00 p.m. CT and 6:30 p.m. CT, followed by an affair Saturday at 1:00 p.m. CT. In the Texans’ last game, they came back from 10-7 scoring eight unanswered runs, five in the ninth inning, to win 15-10. Georgia CapellTarleton’s all-time home run leader, had three in the game and Morgan Medford set a new school record with five runs scored. The Texans host the Wildcats, a 19-19 club that has lost five of its last seven games. The ACU are 2.0 games ahead of Tarleton in the WAC Southwest Division standings at 10-5 in conference, which puts them second as of Monday.
TEXAN TENNIS has previously won the WAC Southwest Division, becoming the first track and field program from Tarleton to win a WAC regular season title. There is just one game left against rival ACU on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT. Abilene Christian is 1-3 in the conference and 7-10 overall. The Texans, with a win, would finish their season 18-4, 5-0 in conference and 9-0 against WAC teams this season. Tarleton have won six straight games, 10 of their last 11 and 16 of their last 18. Jemi Aguilar is the reigning WAC Singles Athlete of the Week, the fourth different Texan to win a weekly singles award this year.
Tarleton Athletics will have an event Friday in Nacogdoches dubbed the SFA Invite. The Texans are coming off six wins and 19 medals at the North Texas Classic. Winners included Aimee Landers-Wilburn in the women’s 5000m, Ben Presley in the men’s javelin, Elise Smith in the women’s javelin, Rylee Hennig in the women’s high jump, Alain Palmer in the men’s long jump, and Jenna Brazal in the women’s 1500m. This is one of only two regular season competitions remaining for Tarleton before the WAC Outdoor Championships in Seattle.
