The concert will feature the original songs of the wife of the Redlands – Redlands Daily Facts

Sue Skarin McClure of Redlands, who recently released a CD of a dozen songs she wrote, will perform a concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday July 16 in the Holy Grail Chapel of the First Congregational Church of Redlands.

During the concert, McClure will sing and play guitar and harp.

His CD, “Living Legacy”, was produced and engineered by Brad Andrews of Redlands and is available for $10. Pianist Ed Yarnelle, guitarist Ben Davis, and cellist Seana Thompson have collaborated with McClure on several songs.

McClure wrote many songs about 30 years ago when she was in her 30s, but it took the COVID-19 pandemic, when she struggled to find activities to do, to prompt to record the songs as his “living legacy,” according to a statement.

McClure began writing music at age 13, and in her twenties took songwriting lessons for several years. She began performing as a singer and guitarist when she was a teenager, in restaurants, in a bluegrass band and a Christian rock band and for many years in nursing homes all over Los Angeles, according to the press release.

When she was writing songs 30 years ago, she didn’t think they were commercial, according to the press release, and while raising kids and teaching fitness classes, she gave up writing. songs.

“In 2019, at age 62, and realizing I wouldn’t be here forever, I opened the book and rediscovered these songs written by a young woman I knew,” McClure said in the press release.

She said her music was influenced by Joni Mitchell, Wendy & Mary, Eva Cassidy, Celtic Woman and Loreena McKennitt, “a bit folkish but a bit more sophisticated”.
