Thanet Big Sing Community Choir received £ 1,000 under the Persimmon Homes Community Champions program.
With over 40 members, the choir welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds who love to sing.
The Big Sing was formed in 2011 to celebrate the opening of Turner Contemporary.
The choir performs at various events throughout the year and promotes the health and wellness benefits of singing.
Choir member Steve Fennell said:
“Our members missed singing a lot during the pandemic and are delighted that we are rehearsing now. Memberships are down a bit, but spending isn’t, especially in light of the Covid security measures we’ve had to adopt to keep everyone safe.
“We are dedicating our current rehearsals to preparing for our winter concert at St James’ Church, Westbrook and this financial boost from Persimmon will help pay for items such as sheet music, marketing materials, refreshments. and the rental of the room.
Part of the generous donation will be used for another event next year.
“We are incredibly grateful and delighted to have been chosen for this award,” said Steve. “Public performances are a great experience for the choir and a great way to encourage new members. “
The Persimmon Homes Community Fund donates up to £ 1,000 to two worthy causes each month.
Sales Manager Natasha Stevens said:
“Christmas can be a difficult time for some people, especially the elderly or those who are alone. We’re so excited that this month’s Community Champions funding is helping to spread the holiday cheer.
The choir’s winter concert will take place on December 18 at St James’s Church, Westbrook, near Margate. For more information visit here.
