The St. Stephen’s United Church Choir will perform a special Christmas cantata entitled “Comfort and Joy” on December 11 at 2 p.m.
A cantata is a vocal composition with instrumental accompaniment, such as a keyboard in this case, according to a press release from Anne Bennett, director of the choir.
“Proclamations about the coming of the Messiah almost always included two messages: Comfort and Joy and it is a seasonal cantata of that name that we will be performing,” Bennett said.
Combining both familiar biblical passages and melodies intertwined with Christmas carols, the musical drama creates a fresh take on the timeless Christmas story.
Guest soloists with the choir are Skye Donald and Bruce Feltham.
No tickets are necessary, but donations to the food bank, whether cash or non-perishable items, will be gratefully accepted.
“Why are we doing this?” Bennett said. “This is because the members of our choir rejoice every year to have the opportunity to sing hymns and Advent songs. This is why many join a church choir in the first place. Performing “Comfort and Joy” allows us to share this love with the community. »
