Now, after a massive backlash, Patil today appears to be backtracking on his remark. “You call it jihad. Do you call Krishna’s lessons to Arjun, Jihad? No, that’s what I said,” Shivraj Patil said in an attempt to clarify the controversial statement.

Further, he said: “In Hindu dharma, if you kill someone who is doing something good, it is called jihad. If you kill Mahatma Gandhi, it is Jihad. The act of killing him is Jihad.”
‘Krishna taught lessons of Jihad to Arjun’
The former minister made the controversial claim as he addressed a rally at the launch of veteran Congressman and former Union minister Mohsina Kidwai’s biography ‘My Life in India Politics’. Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh, Farooq Abdullah and Sushil Kumar Shinde were also present at the event.
“If after explaining everything people don’t understand, they come with guns then you can’t run, you can’t call it jihad and you can’t call it evil, that’s what it takes understand, there shouldn’t be this concept of making people understand guns in hand,” the 87-year-old leader said.
