The Rimbey Lions Club has had an interesting, lively and very satisfying year. We have made many donations to very commendable projects such as the new extension of the Rimbey Lions Walking Trail. The Evergreen section has been completed and is used by school children and adults, as well as occasional walkers.
The Rimbey Library received the initial donation for library expansion and over the next several years the balance of the commitment will be met.
A casino was sponsored and with the help of members of Central Alberta Raceways, funds raised were donated to Raceways for equipment upgrades.
Covid 19 has put a strain on residents and businesses in the community and the Lions of Rimbey have pledged not to solicit for fundraising purposes at this time. Rimbey Lions members have worked diligently with Evergreen Cooperative on two food bank projects.
A very popular late-night shopping event saw members cook and serve hot dogs, hot chocolate and candy canes to shoppers, strollers and visitors while Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus walked around the rack at hay drawn by horses.
Here are some other organizations and residents who have been helped by the Rimbey Lions Club during this time:
Lions Legacy School Scholarships, West Country Outreach School Scholarships, Rimbey Hospital, Medicine Lodge Ski Area, United Church Multiple Pancake Meal Delivery, Provision of Candy and Beverage Packages for Halloween Trek Nights, Movie Night Money Sponsorship for Rimbey Library, Rimbey Boys and Girls and Rimbey Big Brothers Clubs, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Stars Ambulance, Camp He Ho Ha, Western Blind Curlers, Cavalcade for Diabetes , Eyeglass and Can Tab Collections, Organized a few bars and celebrations for weddings, provided immediate emergency donations to homeowners who had the bad luck of a house fire.
The Nesting Place Campground continued to be a great project for the Rimbey Lions Club this year and hosted many campers each week as well as local ball tournaments held nearby. The campground has received many accolades each year and is a great place to just go camping and enjoy the calm atmosphere or perhaps a walk on the Rimbey Lions walking trails. The Rimbey Lions Club continues to work alongside the Rimbey Soccer Club to help mow the grass. In return, this club helped clean up the highway for its assigned area.
During the above period, the Rimbey Lions Club donated funds for projects exceeding a total of $ 154,000.
Members of the Rimbey Lions Club are delighted to return to community projects and events. One such event involves singing Christmas carols at Rimbey Hospital on Christmas mornings. The Rimbey Lions have only missed about three Christmas mornings in their 76-year history. Hopefully, Covid 19 will be more cooperative in the new year.
Thank you to the residents and businesses of the Town and District of Rimbey and we hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2022.
