The Cantata Choir of the Queen of All Saints Catholic Church will once again perform an annual Christmas cantata called “The Promise of Light,” a Christmas musical by Joel Raney, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 19 at 3 p.m. in the church.
The free concert offers time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. The original music is mixed with traditional Christmas carols and songs to tell the timeless story of the birth of Christ, the light of the world.
A cantata (derived from the Italian verb cantare, “to sing”) is a vocal composition with instrumental accompaniment, usually in several movements, often involving a choir. Cantatas originated in the 17th century and continue today with new original compositions such as this one. “Light is essential for life here on Earth. The Promise of Light is a musical celebration of God’s giving of eternal light to mankind, ”said Raney.
The Cantata Choir is led by Stephanie Sobecki, who initiated these cantatas to Queen of All Saints in 2017. She is currently the Music Director of the Queen of All Saints Choirs and currently teaches at Barker Middle School and Michigan City High School.
There is no charge for performance. Queen of All Saints is located at the corner of Esther Street and Barker Avenue.
