PINSUTI Chamber Choir presents Summer Concert: Fiesta Musica on Saturday 16th July at 7.30pm at St Andrews Church Hall, Skipton
Pinsuti celebrates summer with an evening of Central and South American music, featuring Pinsuti and Brazilian fusion band Tempo Feliz. It’s an evening designed to be energetic, enjoyable and fun.
During the first half, Pinsuti sings three contrasting works, all inspired by the music and traditions of Argentina and Central America.
They will begin with the six “Indianas” by Carlos Guastavino, written in 1967. These are settings of poems, on nature, love and life, on music steeped in Argentine folk traditions. For this mixture of lively and quieter pieces, Pinsuti will be accompanied on the piano.
Tempo, century and style then return to Pinsuti’s more familiar unaccompanied early music roots with “Ave Regina”, an eight-part work for double choir, written by Spanish-born Mexican composer, Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla, around 1640.
The biggest piece of the evening is Ariel Ramirez’s “Misa Criolla”. This popular piece was written in 1963, setting the Spanish Mass to music inspired by folk music and dances from across South America, such as the vidala-baguala dance rhythm of northern Argentina for the Kyrie, the Credo inspired by the chacerera trunca of central Argentina. , and Bolivian rhythms for the Sanctus. It’s a fabulous piece, often fast-paced, with lively solo passages, call-and-response sections and percussion.
In the second half, Pinsuti handed over to highly energetic Brazilian fusion outfit Tempo Feliz.
A Pinsuti spokesperson said, “They will have us all dancing to their unique interpretations of classic Brazilian standards and their own original grooves. As we hope it will appeal to a wide range of ages, tickets are priced accordingly, with a limited number of discounted tickets for under 30s and under 18s. Bring your friends! A non-alcoholic bar will be available throughout the evening.
