news, local news,
Bathurst’s Allegri Singers, in conjunction with the Orange Regional Conservatory Symphony Choir and guest members of the Willoughby Singers, will team up to present a powerful rendition of Handel’s Messiah. A hundred voices will be accompanied by the Orchestra of the Regional Conservatory of Orange, all under the direction of William Moxey. The solo vocal components of the work will be performed, as usual, by local singers and exceptional guests. Audiences expect performances of this iconic and popular work to take place every two years, but due to viral interruptions, there has been a long gap between shows. Ongoing COVID-related restrictions have continued to affect live performances, with singing and dancing banned from venues until recently. The last performance of Messiah by Allegri Singers and Friends was in November 2017, so prepare for the release of pent-up, inspired and emotional musical energy in upcoming performances. This is a big budget undertaking for the two main choirs to underwrite, and the assistance from the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund is greatly appreciated. To be financially viable, both performances must attract capacity audiences. The performance will take place at All Saints Cathedral in Bathurst and Holy Trinity Church in Orange on April 9 and 10 respectively, with both performances beginning at 2pm. All tickets are $45 and are available for the Bathurst show from BooksPlus or online https://www.trybooking.com/BXODP or at the door.
