MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – A new book has been released to remind us how sport, and what we have learned through these competitions, can reverberate in all dimensions of life. It’s called “Life Lessons from Sport,” written by John Ed Mathison, the longtime former pastor of the Frazer Methodist Church.
Mathison will tell you that he learned some of life’s best lessons from playing sports. He has always been deeply involved in the sport, even going to college with a full basketball scholarship and playing college tennis for first place in singles, and has never lost a game in those four years. ! He also did coaching in parallel with his ministerial work.
Mathison says he has written extensively about the lessons he has learned in his lifetime playing and watching sports over the years and decided that other people might benefit from reflecting on those lessons, by especially young people, teaching them the value of appropriate lessons when competing.
“These are life lessons that have been learned. They should not only be listed or observed, but should be learned and practiced. Real learning takes place when we hear or see something and then adapt it to our daily way of life, ”said Mathison.
