
MENDOTA – The holidays are fast approaching and Mendota will get into the spirit of the season when it hosts “A Mendota Christmas” on Saturday, December 4 in downtown Mendota. The event is sponsored by the Mendota Region Chamber of Commerce.
Many activities will be organized during the day, including:
- Holiday Craft & Vendor Show – Featuring artisans and vendors for all your holiday gifting needs, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mendota Elks Lodge.
- Free Hot Chocolate and Hot Dogs – The Mendota Lions Club will be offering treats on Illinois Avenue from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Cows Coffee – Sale of hot drinks on Illinois Avenue from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- De Colores – Dance group performing at 10:30 am on Illinois Avenue.
- Taco Guzman – Sale of tacos from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Horse-drawn carriage rides – Corner of Indiana Avenue and Washington Street from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Scout Wreath Sale – Scouts will be selling Christmas wreaths from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Santa – Jolly Old Saint Nick will be making an appearance on Illinois Avenue from noon to 3 p.m. Children are encouraged to write letters and put them in Santa’s mailbox. Father Christmas will be in his house. Social distancing will be practiced.
- Free Book Delivery – Books will be distributed to children who visit Santa Claus to promote literacy in Mendota from noon to 3 p.m.
- Reindeer – Visit with Santa’s reindeer from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Touch-a-Truck – Children of all ages are welcome to see and explore vehicles – police cars, fire trucks, tractors and more.
Other companies and organizations participating in the festivities include Mendota BPW (cookie kits), Expressions Salon (ornament design), Mendota YMCA (Christmas limbo), HCC (crayons and coloring sheets), Mendota Bible Church (canes) candy), Victory Baptist Church (Santa Bingo), First Presbyterian Church (barbecue sandwiches), Sports-N-Stuff, Community Health Partnership, Mendota Rotary Club and Holy Cross.
