The Matlock Gilbert and Sullivan Society – led by aptly appointed Music Director Melanie Gilbert – will hold a festive concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 12 at the Lime Tree Conference Center, home to Church In The Peak on Lime Tree Road.
Melanie said, “We can’t wait to get back on stage. This year we are trying out a new venue for our winter concert and we have put together a pleasant and varied program with something for everyone.
The group, which has entertained local audiences for 26 years, will be joined by top local pianist Chris Flint, who has worked at the Buxton Opera House, the Gilbert and Sullivan International Festival in Harrogate, and this year on BBC Radio Three.
The songs will include season favorite songs like “Walking In The Air” alongside traditional Christmas carols like “The Holly and The Ivy”, familiar folk songs and a sprinkle of lively backing vocals from Gilbert and Sullivan.
President Pip Bradstock said, “We hope people will come and support the local live music. Why not do some Christmas shopping at Matlock and then attend the concert afterwards? There is nothing quite like seasonal songs to kick off the holiday season.
Tickets cost £ 8 and will be available at the door, or can be booked in advance by calling 01629 55157. Tea, coffee and tarts will be served in the interim and the proceeds will be donated to charity.
