The largest event of its kind in the world, the Festival featured an eclectic mix of 50 male choirs at 40 events in 30 venues across Cornwall, with world-class youth and adult choirs from across the Kingdom UK, Europe and beyond, including groups from Switzerland, Germany, Iceland and Canada.
The Peterborough Male Voice Choir have been invited to perform in regional gala concerts at Wadebridge St Petroc’s Church and St Neot’s Parish Church, as well as to compete in the beautiful surroundings of Truro Cathedral.
They had the privilege of singing the Sunday morning service with the Truro Cathedral Choir as well as performing at Bristol Cathedral on their return journey.
Other highlights included a performance on Port Isaac Harbor and a vocal workshop in the Hall for Cornwall with classic crossover supergroup Voces8 – where the choir was reunited with Voces8 member Katie Jefferies Harris, originally from Peterborough and former trainee of the choir.
Between performances they even managed to do some sightseeing, fish and chips and a few pints!
The Peterborough Male Voice Choir are a ‘regular’ at the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival, having participated in 2011, 2013 and 2019 and brought their boys’ choir to Cornwall in 2017, when they had the opportunity to perform in venues such as the Hall for Cornwall, Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum with choirs like the legendary St Petersburg Boys Choir.
The long weekend was a fantastic experience for the members of the choir, as Paul Lewis points out: “It was only three years ago that I was preparing to sing in my very first concert… now I have just returned from a international choral festival, singing in amazing places alongside amazing choirs from all over the world…it’s been quite the trip!
Director Will Prideaux added: “It’s wonderful to be part of this unique festival – an incredible celebration of male vocals!
“We had a spectacular weekend, it was everything we hoped for and more, and – as always – we return home proud of our achievements and full of inspiration.
“It is truly exciting for us to represent Peterborough at such a prestigious international event and that, in terms of male choral singing, the Peterborough Male Voice Choir is considered one of the best in the world.”
