
As part of Anglican rites and in the spirit of celebrating Christmas this year, Our Lady Lynn Chancel & Towers, Mission, Port Harcourt, Rivers State hosted a Carol service and nine lessons to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The song service and nine lessons were held last Saturday at the church headquarters in Woji Town, Obio / Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The Lynn Channel & Towers Choir delighted the congregation with heartfelt songs that added color to the event and were attended by Anglican clerics, church members and other religious organizations.
Delivering his sermon titled “Emmanuel, God With Us,” Ven Eche Godwin of the Anglican Communion described Christmas as a season to celebrate and appreciate God for bringing salvation to mankind through the birth of Jesus Christ.
Eche who is the head of the Department of Religious Studies, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumulomeni, Port Harcourt took his Bible readings from the book of Matthew 1.23 and Galatians 4.4-5 felt that the Christmas season is a time when the mankind appreciates what God has done, saying that God came to mankind through the flesh and was born of woman to dwell among humans.
The Anglican preacher and scholar, however, said people have missed the importance and virtue of Christmas, adding that people, including Christians, have turned the celebration of Christmas into a social feast instead of making Christ the center. of the celebration. They did not reflect on the true meaning and essence of the season rather they see Christmas as a time for the business boom, a time to socialize and show our popularity and our wealth, “” he said. he declares.
Eche listed six Christmas lessons that include God’s offering of forgiveness through Christ, Christ’s custody and protection, peace and leadership control among others, adding that with God there is no no impossibility.
Earlier in an interview, our Lady Lynn Chancel & Towers Mission Chairperson in Port Harcourt, Ven Fyneface Ndubishi Akah, said that we are happy to be part of the celebration to enter with joyful hearts into a time that has come. opened with the solemnity of the Advent season because it pleased God to grant us such an opportunity to celebrate the season.
According to him, the Christmas season is a time that reminds us of the path of God’s forgiveness and offers humanity the opportunity to reclaim the opportunity lost in Eden because of sin, saying that the celebration begins at Christmas, which is the symbol of the birth of Christ.
“Christmas celebrates newness, salvation, forgiveness, and any form of celebration that does not promote the praise and glorification of Christ during the celebration, can bring misfortune,” he said.
Our correspondent reports that members of the congregation were appointed to read the nine lessons of service, while special prayers were offered for the governor and state government, the federal government, leaders and members of society.
