Autumn has definitely invaded the North Country. With the cooler air temperatures and shorter daylight, we can all share the joy that our main street will soon be back to two-lane traffic. For those venturing out this month, here are some reminders of what’s going on at the Lake Placid Public Library.

Homeschool Thursday
–
This program is for families with children from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
The Family Tour is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month to help with book selection, research projects, STEAM supplies / ideas, etc. The thematic programs take place at 10 a.m. on the last Thursday of each month in the backyard of the library or the Saint-Eustache Episcopal Church. Programs include reading aloud, hands-on activities, book lectures (with books to consult) and ideas for extended learning opportunities at home.
Masks (inside) and social distancing mandatory. Free parking in the Saint-Eustache church parking lot is available; simply leave a note on your dashboard stating that you are at a Homeschool Thursday library event. For. Anyone interested in being a part of the home schooling group activities should call the library at 518-523-3200 or email librarian@lakeplacidpubliclibrary.org to subscribe to the upcoming programs / activities mailing list. . Last month, Ms. Armstrong hosted an amazing family cooking program that was enjoyed by everyone involved. Many parents were eager to share photos and comments on home cooking projects.
A homeschool event is scheduled for December 2nd.

Story time with Mrs. Linda

We are all delighted to meet some of our preschoolers in the children’s room for story time on Friday morning at 10:30 am. Ms. Linda always offers the Zoom Storytime option for those who cannot attend in person. If anyone has any questions, please call the library at 518 523-3200.

Book clubs

In-house book clubs are delighted to be back at the library to meet friends in person again.

Math lessons with Chris Ward

Any student in Grades 6 to 12 who needs a math tutor can contact the library at 518-523-3200 to make an appointment. This program is made available through the 2021 Lake Placid Education Foundation Technology and Education Grant.

Computers, meetings
–
The computer room and meeting spaces are open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information on using meeting spaces, call the library or email librarian@lakeplacidlibrary.com.

Oral History Project of Northern Elba Island Tales

The Lake Placid-North Elba Historical Society is reaching out to the local community to find those interested in sharing a 3 to 5 minute story for this project. We are honored to host many of these interviews here at the library. Anyone interested in sharing a story for North Elba Narratives, please email Kendall Taivalkoski: kctaivalkoski@gmail.com.
