LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The COVID-19 pandemic has extinguished a valuable performance from the Christmas season in 2020, but the Lafayette Master Chorale returns Sunday night with a holiday favorite, Candlelight, Lessons and Carols.
The Lafayette Master Chorale, with each member fully vaccinated against COVID-19, will present Candlelight, Lessons and Carols for two performances Sunday, at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in downtown Lafayette.
Nine Lessons and Carols’ traditional service includes brass and organ accompaniment, choral music and readings.
The 50-member choir, under the direction of Michael Bennett, last performed in
December 2019 sold out at Saint-Boniface Church. The last performance of the 2019-2020 season, scheduled for April 2020 at the start of the pandemic, has been canceled due to COVID-19.
“We are delighted to be back on stage,” artistic director Michael Bennett said in a statement. “The singers are excited to be making music again, and it’s a real joy to hear the art created by this band.”
The Bach Chorale Singers, formed in 1964, are a semi-professional group that perform
high quality choral music under the direction of highly qualified artistic staff. In
2017, the group adopted the name Lafayette Master Chorale.
Masks are compulsory during the performance. Admission is $ 20 for adults, $ 10 for students over 18, and free for children 18 and under. Tickets are available by calling 765-429-5151, at lafayettemasterchorale.org, or at the door.
