Keith Richards has confirmed the Rolling Stones are working on new material.
During an appearance on CBS Sunday morningthe legendary guitarist noted that he wrote songs alongside Mick Jagger and drummer Steve Jordan, who toured with the band last year following the death of Charlie Watts.
“It will be interesting to find out the dynamic now that Steve is in the band,” admitted Richards. “It’s kind of a metamorphosis into something else. I was working with Mick last week, and Steve, and we found eight or nine new elements. Which is overwhelming by our standards. Other times, [songwriting is] like a desert.
When asked why it’s sometimes easier or harder to create new content, Richards shrugged. “It’s the muse thing,” the rocker explained. “If I could find his address (laughs).”
The Stones’ latest album, blue and lonely, was released in 2015 and consisted of blues covers. You have to go back to the years 2005 A bigger blow to find the latest LP of the original material group. “Charlie has been working on some filler and stuff like that,” Jagger revealed in 2021, adding that it would be hard to record new Stones songs without the drummer. “Without Charlie, it’s going to be very difficult. And we have leads, which obviously have Charlie on them. But if we do new things, we won’t do it.”
Jagger had previously acknowledged that a new Stones album was in the works. “Sounds good, which we’ve done before,” the frontman noted in 2020, adding that they “recorded a bunch of stuff” around the same time as the single “Living in a Ghost Town.”
