TYLER, Texas (KETK) – Green Acres Baptist Church is spreading the joy of a much-needed vacation to nursing homes at a time when residents’ mental health has declined during the pandemic.
The main Church choir performed at the Hamptons and Primrose retirement homes.
“We are delighted to be back and to share the love of Jesus with music,” said worship pastor Mike Parks.
This is the choir’s first performance since it had to cancel all of its concerts last year due to Covid-19. They said they were delighted to be back.
“We love to come to this place and commune with them and worship the Lord with them,” Parks added.
Studies show that older people lacked human contact and suffered mentally from social distancing during the pandemic. This is why events like this are so important.
“It makes me vibrate deep in my heart. My heart is there, ”said Hamptons resident Thelma Ruth Childs.
Childs explained that she had been a member of Green Acres Baptist Church for over 40 years. She said she was happy to see the choir perform again.
About 85 senior choir members attended and sang all of the Jesus-centric Christmas classics. They said they wanted to remind others what this holiday was about.
“Everything about his coming to Earth to save us and to leave his throne of glory so that he can die on the cross,” Parks added.
Residents sang to their favorite holiday tunes including O Holy Night and The First Noel.
“The Green Acres Baptist Church is the most amazing of all the churches that grow and love God,” Childs said passionately.
The church aspires to bring smiles and songs to all this holiday season.
