Slipknot follow-up to 2019 We are not your type is slated for release around March or April 2022. That’s according to the latest estimate from singer Corey Taylor, who shared the rough schedule and more during a Dec. 16 appearance on Radio hard drive.
The next LP, Slipknot’s seventh, is expected to be mixed by Joe Barresi, the same engineer who mixed WANYK, 2014 .5: The Gray Chapter and worked with Judas Priest, Nine Inch Nails, Soundgarden and more. Last month, Slipknot released “The Chapeltown Rag”, their first new song since. WANYK.
Taylor said Hard disk‘s Lou Brutus, “The goal right now – and I don’t want to talk out of my turn – the goal is to get it ready for mixing in January so that we can release it two or three months after.” [via Metal Hammer]
The Slipknot singer explained, “I have four songs that I [still] I have to sing because I was doing one again that I was not happy with. I listened to it and thought to myself, “I can do better.” And honestly, I have very rarely had the opportunity to do this. … [It’s] kind of rad that I get the chance to come in and go, ‘You know what? I can beat what I have done. But it’s going to take me five days to do it. Because I’m going to do these four songs and then go back and puncher everything that I don’t feel. But it’s going to be very, very little because I’m pretty depressed with everything I’ve got. Once that’s done, all that’s left is to mix Joe. “
Taylor also said that Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan was working on the album cover. He added that they were also shooting a music video for “The Chapeltown Rag”, as well as possibly “Whatever the first single is. Yes, it’s only a matter of time.”
Teases of Slipknot’s new music surfaced last month on a cryptic NFT website. In October, Taylor said the album was “about 80% complete.” (This week, he estimated it was “90 percent.”) In June, Clown suggested it would emerge this year. Guitarist Jim Root said earlier that they have a few new albums ready.
