Swindell’s latest multi-week hit — which is his 12th No. 1 single overall — literally embraces ’90s fervor: It samples liberally from Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” courtesy of the writers of the original song, and the music video even features a cameo from Messina herself.
As he continues his country radio winning streak, Swindell is also on a roll in other aspects of his career. He is nominated for two trophies at the next CMA Awards 2022, both for his collaboration with Wilson: “Never Say Never” is in the running for music video of the year and musical event of the year.
Meanwhile, Swindell plans to kick off his Back Down to the Bar Tour headliner this weekend. The trek, a continuation of his spring 2022 Down to the Bar Tour, kicks off Sept. 23 in Helotes, Texas, and runs through mid-November.
