So, is it just us, or is this a particularly Carey filled year?
“I’m going all out all year, honey, ”she told USA TODAY. ” I like holidays. It’s just my thing. I just have a special connection to Christmas.
While Carey skillfully turned the undying success of “All I Want For Christmas Is You” – a game that deserves unequivocal praise – into a seasonal income stream, she is not exaggerating her affection for them. vacation.
The ground floor of her Los Angeles home was decorated in early November, although she admits, “I walk past the room and I’m like, I can’t look at her. Again. “In mid-December, she and her 10-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, will make their annual pilgrimage to Aspen, Colorado, where the singer says three Christmas trees will be decorated and real reindeer will hang out in the snow.
The rest of us can experience a hint of Carey with the Mariah Carey Holiday Collection sold online as well as at Target and Walmart (blankets, socks, ornaments, a Carey and Cha Cha plush) or with a sip. of his Black Irish liquor (Carey suggests “treat it like dessert, after dinner”) while listening to Carey’s Christmas carols.
Carey, of course, has her own vacation favorites, which she (and her friend Franklin) have shared.
Q: Besides your own songs, what is your favorite Christmas music?
Mariah Carey: I listen to a playlist of thousands of Christmas songs from so many different albums that maybe not everyone is familiar with. I love the “Jackson 5 Christmas Album”, still Nat King Cole and one of my favorites, Donny Hathaway. Even “The Chipmunk Song” is on the playlist! The people that come to stay with me, family and friends, it’s gotta be, like, December 28th and they go, can we put it back (any other music)?
Q: Favorite Christmas movie?
Kirk Franklin: I love (classic) animations like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, even though the animation is dated.
Carey: Yes! Rudolph and “Frosty (The Snowman)” and “Santa Claus is Comin ‘to Town”. There is something nostalgic about it. I watch them every year with the children. And you must like “Elf”.
Q: Are twins always preparing for Santa Claus?
Carey: Sure. Santa Claus sees us every year.
Q: Do they leave cookies for him?
A: I’m not trying to plug anything in, but I also have Mariah’s cookies. And yes, (Santa Claus) hangs out with us.

Q: Why did you decide to take the ballad route with “Fall in Love at Christmas”?
Carey: We were working at the Butterfly Lounge in Atlanta on a lot of different things, like a seven minute version of “We Belong Together”… and it wasn’t about what kind of song, it was about a musical venue and of a haven of peace. and we’re done with that. It’s not just a ballad. Once the choir arrives, it takes (singing) to a new place, a spiritually enhanced place. I can’t compete with “All I Want For Christmas”, but I love it.
Q: How did you come to collaborate with Kirk and Khalid?
Carey: We were in Atlanta after vacation last year and my apartment was still undergoing renovations. My Music Director Daniel Moore is based in Atlanta, and lo and behold, Tyler Perry texted me the exact day (I got there) and I said, “I don’t know where to go”, and he found this house. and we transformed it into the butterfly lounge. Daniel and I started writing the song and Kirk came over and we played with lyrics and ideas and he brought it back to Houston and added the most amazing choir. I got the song back and it blew me away.
Franklin: I was very honored that she considered me. It’s no secret that some of the pioneers came from the church and the church community has always been a fan of Mariah and her style. She has always been respected in the community of true singers.
Q: Your Apple TV + special last year was so much fun with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. What can we expect from the news?
Carey: I don’t want to reveal anything, but the gentleman on the phone with us (Franklin) will be there, along with Khalid. And I’m doing another song which is a fan favorite song that I didn’t perform in the first Christmas special. I really like how it looks.
