ASTORIA – The Cultural Division of the Pancyprian Association of America presents the annual Kalanta Christmas concert with artistic and musical director Phyto Stratis and the soloists and choirs of the Pancyprian Choir of NY on Saturday, December 18 at 7:30 p.m., in St. Catherine and St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 22-30 33rd Street in Astoria. The concert is back live to once again bring holiday cheer to the community in the festive spirit of the season. The program includes the traditional Christmas and New Year’s kalanta, Christmas carols, and Christmas favorites we all know and love.
The highly anticipated concert was performed virtually last year, due to the pandemic, but this year with safety measures followed, the choir members are eager to perform live for an in-person audience.
During last year’s pandemic, the Pan-Cyprus choir had gathered online through Zoom, and while not ideal for a choir used to singing all together, the virtual rehearsals kept the members in touch and with something. something to look forward to every week even under lockdown with the goal of returning to performing arts as soon as possible. In-person rehearsals resumed this fall and the choir rehearsed and prepared for the Christmas concert with their usual enthusiasm and dedication to performing beloved holiday music.
