
ROOT COUNTY – The Choral Arts Society of Southeastern Wisconsin will be making their long-awaited return to concerts in person with perennial favorite, “Lessons and Carols.”
CAS will have two performances – at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 17 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 305 S. First St., Waterford, and at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 19, at First Presbyterian Church, 715 College Ave., Root. Masks will be compulsory.
Audiences will be invited to listen to inspiring music including familiar Christmas carols such as “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come, All Ye Faithful,” jazz-inspired “Evening Prayer” from the popular contemporary composer. Ola Gjeilo with Patricia Backhaus and Patricia Badger on trumpet, and an ethereal setting of William Blake’s poem “The Lamb” by British composer John Tavener. The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols had its premiere at Kings College, Cambridge in 1818 and has become a beloved tradition around the world.
