The Trinity Anglican Choir School will start on September 18 and run every Tuesday evening until Christmas. Children will learn vocal skills, hand signals and rhythm reading using the Kodaly method of music education.
“We are all qualified music teachers and qualified to teach. It is an affordable choir for parents. It’s something kids can join and experience a great program for a nominal fee,” said Gena Norbury, music teacher at Trinity Anglican Choir School.
“No child will be turned away even if they don’t sing perfectly on the pitch,” she said. “All children can learn if guided by the right voices.”
The program will have children divided into three age groups. Con Brio Cherubs will cover children ages 5-8 and will cost $15 per child for one term. The course will take place from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The Con Brio Singers are children aged 9 to 17. The course will cost $20 per term and will run from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Con Brio Chamber Singers is an audition class for students who have previously attended Con Brio Singers. The course will not charge any additional fees and will focus on more advanced musical methods. The class covers ages 12 to 17.
One concert will take place quarterly at Christmas and in the spring, unless outside groups or organizations are invited to perform.
Students will learn different levels of music depending on their age group.
Additional costs include a notebook and writing materials, which will be provided for the children.
A welcome vocal placement will take place on June 28 at Trinity Anglican Church in Simcoe, where families can register their children for class and meet Norbury to get a taste of the children’s singing level.
Norbury and her husband Kevin both have a professional background in music. Norbury previously worked as a music teacher with the Peel District School Board for 32 years. Kevin is Music Director at Trinity Anglican Church in Simcoe.
Registration can be done by voice placement or by email at trinitychoirschool@gmail.com. For more information, call 519-586-7833.
