A CHORUS for the homeless and marginalized is expected to return this Christmas for its first live performance in 18 months.
The Choir with No Name Brighton, which involves people who have experienced homelessness and marginalization, returns to Brighton Dome on December 9 with their rendition of the Christmas classics.
This will be their first live performance since before the pandemic, and they will be joined by singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe and Stomp-style body percussionist Olly Tunmer of Beat Goes On.
Marie Benton, CEO of Choir with No Name, said: “We are delighted to be back at Brighton Dome – our home away from home.
“It’s been a long two-year hiatus from live performances, so being back with our Big Christmas Gathering is more important than ever.
“Our choir members bring so much energy and exhilaration to their live performances, and we look forward to giving the Brighton crowd an unforgettable party night.”
The Choir with No Name Christmas Concert at the Dome is an annual event on Brighton’s Christmas calendar, with audiences returning year after year to enjoy festive favorites, from All I Want for Christmas is You to Last Christmas .
The choir opened in August 2018 and is run in partnership with Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) Sussex.
She rehearses every Monday at St Paul’s Church in the city center, and each rehearsal is followed by a shared hot meal cooked by a team of volunteers.
The members, who are largely from the homeless and recovering community in Brighton, have the opportunity to make friends, learn new skills and gain self-confidence, all while singing together as part of a united choral community.
Throughout the pandemic, the choir continued to sing online and outdoors, and were recently able to sing together indoors again.
Andy Winter, Managing Director of BHT Sussex, said: “The Christmas concert at the Dome is truly one of the highlights of the holiday season.
“The past 20 months have been tough for a lot of people who don’t have much to sing about. But that should change on December 9th.
“It’s time to sing with all your heart, get into the Christmas beat, and have a great time.
“To paraphrase Mariah Carey, ‘All I want for Christmas is the Big Christmas Gathering’ with the unnamed choir! Along with having an unforgettable evening, you will be supporting our work with the homeless.”
Tickets cost £ 12 (£ 8 off) and are available on the Brighton Dome website or at their box office:
