Why Brian Wilson co-wrote several songs with a DJ
During a 2013 interview with Rock Cellar Magazine, Wilson talked about one of his regular co-writers: Roger Christian. “He was a disc jockey for LA radio station KFWB,” Wilson recalled. “At the end of 1963, I met him at the KFWB and he said to me, ‘Hey, I write lyrics about cars, can you add music to it?’ And I said, “Yeah,” so that’s how we started writing together and writing these car songs.
Afterwards, Wilson discussed his opinion of Christian. “He was a great guy to write songs with,” Wilson said. “He laughed a lot and made me happy. Some of the great songs we wrote together were ‘Shut Down’ and ‘Little Deuce Coupe’. Other songs Wilson co-wrote with Christian include ‘The Beach Boys Medley “, “Spirit of America” and “Dead The Curve of Man.”

During a 2011 interview with Goldmine, Wilson discussed The Beach Boys’ “Don’t Worry Baby.” “I wrote this with Roger Christian and it took me two days to write it,” he said. “I started with the idea for the verse, then I wrote the chorus.”
Wilson revealed his thoughts on “Don’t Worry Baby.” “It was a very simple and beautiful song,” he said. “It’s really a song from the heart and soul, I really felt it in my heart.”
Wilson added that “Don’t Worry Baby” has a double meaning. “Some say it’s about a car and some say it’s about a girl, who’s right?” he said. “It’s both. It’s about a car and a woman.
