KUALA LUMPUR: The Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur will embark on a year-long series of family life activities from August 2022 to July 2023. This falls under the theme of the 10th World Meeting of Families 2022 (XWMOF22) in Rome last month, Family Life: A Vocation and Path to Holiness.
According to Father Peter Anthony, Ecclesiastical Assistant to the Family Life Commission, celebrations at the archdiocesan level will begin with an inaugural Mass at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral on August 21.
“Archbishop Julian Leow will preside over the Eucharistic celebration which will launch our family life activities throughout the year,” Fr. Peter said, adding that some of the activities will be based on a focus on families, as well as on the theme given during XWMOF22.
“During the meeting in Rome, many areas of family life were shared by the couples and families of the presenters. We will use some of the guidelines and input from the sessions to organize events for our local Church here in the Archdiocese.
“Our objective is to develop the theme chosen by the Pope, taking into account some strong indications from Amoris Laetitia (Joy of Love), who was very present for the possible development of the family pastoral underlined during the Meeting World of Families,” explained Father Peter.
Besides the Inaugural Mass, some of the activities planned for 2022-2023 include sessions on Amoris Laetitia (revisit document); podcast family discussions with selected topics based on XWMOF22; Family Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; family rosary / pilgrimage of the rosary (month of October 2022/May 2023); reach out to families in need (poor, single parents, disabled, unhappy migrants); Family day 2023.
“The Archdiocese’s Family Life Commission anticipates that more families will benefit from the events being held and we also hope to gain more support and collaborate with clergy and ministries in this regard.
“Further information and updates will be provided from time to time,” Fr Peter added.
