Yeah. D’Angelo is on the list. This song pumps you up like going to a gospel church pumps you up. You feel the heartbreaking bitter sweetness of life. You feel the beautiful, overwhelming and unstoppable passage of time as you become aware of your connection to all beings. You feel like a fucking cowboy. It’s the most understated song on this list, but perhaps the most uplifting and uplifting.

This song existed long before people satisfactorily slipped the L track into its perfect place. Russian novelist Nikolay Nekrasov wrote a poem in 1861 called “Korobeiniki”, which means peddlers. The poem was a smash hit (old days were on) and was quickly transformed into a popular folk song. Cut to 1989 and Hirokazu Tanaka arranging the classic melody into the hit theme for a hit game. Hearing this song makes the soul leap, the heart races, the mind blossoms with possibilities. You can’t help but pump your arms like a pixelated little guy running down a hallway full of bad guys. Yes, we know that does not happen in Tetris. But it’s art man, it makes you right feel things.
