The Temple Square Tabernacle Choir is seeking a General Manager to oversee the organization under a new administrative structure.
The creation of the new position was announced Friday in a press release.
Finding a new general manager for the Tabernacle Choir is the latest in a series of structural changes that began in August 2021 when President Michael O. Leavitt and his advisers, L. Whitney Clayton and Gary B. Porter, were called upon to lead the choir. as presidency.
The choir presidency sits at the executive council level and reports to Bishop Gérald Caussé, Presiding Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
What will the CEO do?
The new executive director will work under the direction of the Tabernacle Choir presidency to oversee production, performances, marketing and research for the choir.
The new conductor will provide general management of staff and volunteers and oversee the Temple Square Orchestra, Temple Square Choir and Temple Square Bells.
The new executive director will enable the choir to work more effectively with senior leaders from other church departments to usher in new initiatives that were announced last February. These four initiatives include:
- Expand the choir’s digital audience.
- Magnify the missionary role of the choir.
- Align the choir with the global mission of the church
- Increase the worldwide visibility of the choir.
“In making these organizational changes, we recognize that we are building on a strong foundation established by those who have served the Choir so diligently in the past, and who do so now,” Leavitt said in the press release. “We are preparing for a future where we can fulfill a prophetic charge of doing things the Choir has never done before.”
Qualifications for New Tabernacle Choir General Manager
- Candidates for the position should have a passion for music and an understanding of music organizations.
- A master’s degree or equivalent is required with specialization in business, music, international relations and logistics.
- Applicants must be 15 years or older in progressive leadership positions with at least five years of senior-level management experience.
- The choir also seeks individuals with proven leadership and management abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with staff and peers at the department level, and to work cooperatively. with church leaders, volunteers and the community.
“Most importantly, the main objective of the General Manager of the Tabernacle Choir in Temple Square will be to manage the organization of the choir in its mission to act as an emissary for the church and to imitate the love of God by witnessing to Jesus Christ through uplifting music and inspiring messages,” Leavitt said.
