AN UNUSUAL concert on the theme of Heaven and Hell will be performed by the award-winning Medina Community Choir.
This will be the choir’s first performance of 2022 on April 8 at St Mary’s Church, Cowes, and will be repeated on April 9 at St John’s Church, Newport (both at 7pm).
The Heaven and Hell-themed concert was originally scheduled for 2020.
Choir director Hannah Redman said: “In 2020 we started a program called Heaven and Hell featuring everything from Beyoncé’s Halo to Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell to Haydn’s The Heavens Are Telling.
“We couldn’t play that year, thanks to Covid-19, but the time has finally come.”
The choir rehearsed on Zoom during lockdowns and resumed in-person rehearsals as soon as cleared, performing The Beatles and peace and love-themed charity concerts last July, and three festive concerts in December, before returning to the repertoire of heaven and hell.
Upcoming plans include a gospel workshop (2pm-5pm) and concert (7pm) in aid of Mountbatten on April 23 at St Mary’s Church, Cowes.
In the summer, the choir will perform full gospel concerts July 30 at Newport Minster and July 31 at St. Catherine’s Church in Ventnor, before touring France in August.
