Professor of accounting, Christhudoss, who taught “sexology” courses provided under the POCSO law

Police arrested Christhudoss, a government senior secondary school teacher, accused of taking a sexology course under the POCSO Act.

He was attending classes for 11th and 12th graders at Thingal Sandai Government Higher Secondary School near Eraniyel in Kanyakumari district. Over 1,500 students of both sexes study at the school. It has grades 1 through 12. Female students have complained to police that accounting professor Christhoodoss used obscene, sexy, double-meaning words explicitly detailing acts of love in the classroom.

“When we are interrogated, we are threatened and locked in the classroom. They told our parents that he was taking classes and that it was related to the subject. Accounting and sexology are two completely different subjects,” student Shruthi states in her complaint. “The teacher was a repeat offender and had been suspended earlier for the same crime,” a parent said.

The parents besieged the HM room and argued with him to take action against the teacher. When protests by parents grew, the Thakkalai District Education Officer, Emperumal, investigated with Christhudoss without action. Enraged parents met with the SP and lodged a complaint. Now the police have arrested him under the POCSO law.

In a separate incident, the caretaker of a home for orphaned children in Vayalur near Kalpakkam, Charles (58) was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor and impregnating her. She gave birth to a child in 2021. He left the girl and baby in the care of a woman in Rajamangalam and went into hiding. Based on a complaint, the police booked a case and were looking for him. The police found him in a hotel in Koyambedu bus station and arrested him.

Last July, based on numerous allegations, Tamil Nadu Police filed a POCSO lawsuit against Albert Abraham, a teacher at CSI Higher Secondary School for the Deaf in Sivaganga District, Manamadurai. He is accused of sexually abusing his disabled girl students for ten years.

In May this year Joseph Raja, 49, a pastor at a church in Malayadipatti, Rajapalayam was accused of sexually abusing a mentally disabled 14-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu. The young girl had gone to church looking for her mother when the pastor committed the heinous act. It was booked under POCSO as the girl is underage and arrested by the police.

A special court dealing with cases registered under the POCSO sentenced A Anwar Basha, 75, a trader in metal utensils, to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and having her impregnated near Ranipet. He seduced the underage girl by offering her sweets and snacks and kidnapped her from a secluded place and repeatedly sexually assaulted her. When the girl told her mother that she had severe pain in her stomach, she took her to a doctor who, after checking, said that the girl was pregnant. The girl told her mother that Basha repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
