At least half a million people from the city of Las Piñas turned out to show their support for UniTeam candidates led by presidential bettor Bongbong Marcos and his running mate, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte, on Sunday, March 13.
This estimate was provided by the Marcos camp in a statement Monday morning March 14. He cites a “report from the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Las Piñas”.
“The total number of people who came out of their respective homes and expressed their support along the entire 12 kilometer stretch of road from Muntinlupa to Las Piñas, including those who participated in the caravan and those who attended the large gathering at The BBM-Sara UniTeam Tent was estimated at 500,000,” the statement read.
But the same statement said turnout for Sunday activities could be even higher, as it notes logistics calculations by Senate UniTeam staffer Mark Villar.
“She indicated that with a 12 kilometer long road full of people on both sides, with 20 conservative layers of people (but in fact there were more) on each side, calculated at one person per meter, there is would already have 480,000 people, and including the thousands of supporters who made it to The Tent, the total number of those who sacrificed themselves and paid tribute and supported the BBM-Sara UniTeam in the two cities, could probably exceed 500 000,” he said of the staffer’s observations. She has not been identified.
The crowd was so huge at the UniTeam motorcade that Las Piñas native Villar claimed everyone left their house just to catch a glimpse of Marcos and Duterte.
Marcos and Duterte have consistently conducted pre-election polls for president and vice president, respectively.
Marcos is the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer, while Duterte is the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) bet for vice president. She also chairs Lakas-CMD.
