Referring to “Operation Snow Leopard” launched by the Indian Army against Chinese aggression along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh), the Commander of the Northern Army, the Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, said on Friday that the valuable lessons of the Operations have been fully assimilated and merged into our capabilities for rapid mobilization, appropriate force posture and infrastructure development in synergy with the other two services, the central armed police forces and the civil administration.
However, there is still much to do given the dynamics displayed in terms of divergent perceptions on the LAC.
Lieutenant General Dwivedi was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the “North Tech Symposium 2022” in Udhampur. The seminar is held on the theme “Self-reliance in defense through
Atmanirbharta and the infusion of new technologies to address Northern Command’s operational challenges”.
The Commander of the Northern Army said; “Thus, we must at all times be prepared and seasoned to counter dynamic operational situations and challenges and emerge victorious.”
“This requires adaptability of our troops to the constantly changing environment of the battlefield as well as the adoption of innovative solutions to surprise the adversary, gain the upper hand over him and always be one step ahead in the fight. cognitive, virtual and physical space”.
The Northern Command exemplifies the notion of a “two and a half front”. With its unique borders and varied terrain ranging from plains to super high altitude, as well as normal to extreme weather and climate conditions with temperatures down to minus 50 to 70 degrees.
Eye-to-eye deployment from the plains of Jammu to the Siachen Glacier and further into eastern Ladakh, and the dynamic internal security situation in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir make the Northern Command the theater the most unique. Since its lifting, the Northern Command has been “always in combat”, he said.
The intervening period made us aware of the importance of Raksha Atmanirbharta or self-reliance in defense making. A large number of initiatives have been taken by the government to give the necessary impetus to the national defense industry in order to achieve self-sufficiency.
He welcomed Indian Defense Industry, DRDO, DPSUs, Universities, IDS HQ, Army HQ, ARTRAC HQ, other Commands and Cat A Ests who are attending the seminar .
The Ministry of Defense has set an indigenous manufacturing target of defense articles worth US$25 billion (Rs 1.75 lakhs cr), including an export target of US$5 billion (Rs 35,000 cr) by 2025.
The main objective of the symposium is to bridge the gap between user needs for critical defense products/technologies and the capabilities of Indian OEMs/suppliers to meet the same through their products, leading to faster procurement by the Command du Nord through ACSFP and product improvement through OCPP.
The solutions we seek with respect to border guard and homeland security challenges will lead to the operational convergence of CAPFs such as the BSF, CRPF, ITBP and State Police co-employed within of the Northern Command, he added.
