After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir will be able to spread its holiday cheer in person this year.
The Indianapolis Children’s Choir will present its Holiday “Comfort and Joy” concert from December 17-19 at the Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis. In recent years, the concerts have been held at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

“So we’re really excited to be in a new space,” said ICC Artistic Director Joshua Pedde.
The shows are at 7 p.m. on December 17, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on December 18 and 4 p.m. on December 19.
“The 7 o’clock performances will be our advanced singers,” said Pedde, a Carmelite resident. “The afternoon show will feature beginner levels and intermediate choirs. The youngest sing for a little over an hour and the more advanced sing for an hour and 15 minutes for an hour and a half of music. The whole program will be presented during this weekend.

Pedde said there will be different arrangements of classic holiday songs, such as “Jingle Bells” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen”.
“We’re making new music,” Pedde said. “We’re doing a version of the ‘Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy’ which was recorded by Pentatonix. There will be something for everyone at these performances.
The December 19 concert will feature the ICC Alumni Choir.
“Alumni from the past 36 years will be together to sing with the Indianapolis Children’s Choir,” said Pedde. “We have about 50 who will be our alumni choir. They will be presented alone on a few songs. They get together (December 18), rehearse, have time to commune and give the concert (December 19). The range ranges from some of our founders 36 years ago to recent college graduates. “
Pedde, who is in his sixth year as Artistic Director, knows many alumni. He has been part of the choir for 20 years.
Pedde said the holiday concerts took place in several locations, including the first time at the Second Presbyterian Church several years ago.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 holiday concert was filmed and available to stream during the month of December.
“Our COVID protocols include social distancing and masking,” Pedde said. “Our public will also be asked to wear a mask while in the building. We are taking extra precautions as we are seeing cases increase here. “
Pedde said the ICC hosted an in-person concert in the fall.
Pedde said the ICC has been busy this holiday season, participating in three different “Nutcracker” performances in central Indiana and singing at the Indianapolis Zoo.
“We’re going back to as normal a schedule as possible during this time,” said Pedde.
The “Comfort and Joy” concert will be recorded and performed early in the morning on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day on WTHR-13.
“It’s never the full concert, but people can see parts of the concert,” Pedde said.
