A Moorlands fundraising enthusiast is due to start her year of activities this Saturday.
Suzanne Sheldon, who has raised thousands of pounds for charity and good causes over the years, has already started her fundraising year by hosting two coffee mornings in January at Trinity Church, Derby Street, Leek.
The first is this Saturday January 15 for Dunwood and Horton First Responders and the second is Saturday January 29 to complete the fundraiser for Dougie Mac, Blood Bikes and Staffordshire Lost Dogs Capture Team, for whom there is already over £1000 in the kitty.
If anyone would like to support these coffee mornings with cakes or monetary donations, it would be greatly appreciated.
Suzanne said: “My next big fundraiser is for International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8 each year and celebrating the achievements of women around the world throughout history. The very first JIF was held on March 19, 1911 with rallies and meetings and it was a huge success.
“It was held on this day as it commemorated the day the King of Prussia promised to introduce women’s suffrage. However, he broke his promise and the date was moved to March 8, 1913.
“Events are being held around the world with diverse women including politicians, community women, business leaders and entrepreneurs invited to speak at events held to celebrate International Women’s Day.
“The messages at these events often focus on themes such as innovation, representation of women in media, education, careers, charity work. Basically, celebrating the importance of women in society. International Women’s Day has a purple and white logo and features the symbol of Venus, which is also the symbol of being female.
“This year’s celebration takes place at the Rudyard Hotel on Friday 11 March 2022 with a two course meal followed by tea/coffee. The charity chosen to benefit from the fundraiser is ‘Target Ovarian Cancer’. The price is £22 for the meal, tea/coffee followed by guest speaker Kerry Impey, a local lady in remission from ovarian cancer.
“This incredible inspirational woman will share her journey with us and tell us how she fought to get to where she is today.
“Please join me in celebrating the achievements of this lovely lady. Contact me on 07518 074185 or suzsheldon@btinternet.com for more details or for details on one of my upcoming charity events.
