On February 13, Boksburg SAPS and Bertha Gxowa Hospital forensic nurse Hazel Moagi encouraged congregants at Light OF The World Church in the informal neighborhood of Angelo to report any illegal activity.
Boksburg SAPS Station Commander Colonel Matshedeso Mbele said they were at the church as part of their divine intervention program, where they prayed and strengthened their relationship with church worshipers. .
“We came here because we need the help of the faithful to fight crime. We know the church serves the same purpose as we do. We want them to get to know us as Boksburg SAPS police officers,” Mbele said.
Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Ntsako Ledwaba said the Angelo community needs to be active in fighting crime and reporting any criminal activity.
He also told worshipers that anyone who knows anything about a crime and then says nothing about it is as guilty as the criminal.
“The community should not hide any information about a crime from the police. We are usually accused of not doing our job, but another problem is the community hiding information from us,” said Ledwaba,
Moagi reiterated the same sentiments and informed congregants that there are five care centers that care for rape victims in Ekurhuleni. These centers are at Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital, Bertha Gxowa Hospital, Pholosong Hospital, Thembisa Hospital and Tambo Memorial Hospital.
“Any rape victim should be taken to one of these centers,” Moagi said.
